South American Surgeons Celebrate Taheri's Invention of the TALENT Thoracic Stent Graft

February 2005 -- Dr. Syde A. Taheri, MD, is honored to receive an award at the International Symposium  of Endovascular Treatment of Aortic Diseases for his invention of the TALENT Thoracic Stent Graft, which is now being produced by MedTronic.  Click here to see media coverage about the award and event.

Dr. Taheri, along with co-inventor Howard Leonhardt, accepted the award on February 1, 2005, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.  The symposium specifically highlighted the 10th anniversary of the TALENT device.  Click here to see the program for the event, which features the TALENT Thoracic Stent Graft on the cover.

The first clinical research of the TALENT (which stands for Taheri and Leonhardt) Thoracic Stent Graft was conducted at University at Buffalo, New York, in 1991.  The device was first used on a human patient with a life-threatening aortic aneurysm in 1995 in Australia.  Since then, TALENT has been used in more than 60,000 patients in various countries.  In the United States, the device is being tested in clinical trials at 35 highly regarded universities and medical centers before it becomes FDA-approved.
